BMW India recently launched the all-new i4 here in India. This is the first luxury midsize sedan in the country to get an all-electric powertrain and it joins the range of growing luxury EVs in the country.
Exterior
From a design standpoint, BMW i4 follows the latest design language seen on BMW sedans across their range. Its closest petrol-engine sibling would be the 3 Series, however there are enough design elements to make the i4 stand apart. It sports a sharp chiseled look with a bold kidney grille up front and sleek looking headlights that continue to have that characteristic BMW ‘twin look’ trait. The bold lines carry over to the side and the frameless glasses on the doors are a definite BMW trait. Moving on to the rear, the sharp design language gets an aggressive touch with concise L-shaped LED lights to give you a very sporty looking sedan that has a futuristic appeal.
Interior
The cabin has a nice airy layout with a driver focused design. The big highlight is the BMW curved display that takes centerstage on the dash and provides the driver with a plethora of information as well as works as the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Like all BMW products, this is the latest iteration of what we are accustomed to as the driver-focused-cockpit. The materials used to craft the cabin are typical BMW and have that opulent feel to them. The sedan comes with six selectable ambient lighting options, three-zone automatic climate control with a nanofiber filter to optimize cabin air quality. As far as space on board is concerned, the cabin has a nice airy feel to it and is rather functional too. The rear seat comes with a 40/20/40 split function and the boot can store up to 470 litres of luggage. With the rear row folded down, this goes up to 1290 litres.
Performance
Powering the BMW i4 is the fifth generation eDrive technology from the company. This set up includes an 80.7kWh lithium-ion battery, single electric motor and power electronics that allow the car to go from 0-100km/h in just 5.7 seconds and offer a 590 km/h range on a single charge, while delivering a total output of 340 hp. It comes with fast charging capabilities and BMW will be offering the 11kW charging set up for homes as part of the deal with the car, as an introductory offer. The BMW i4 boasts of a rear wheel drive set up with a 50/50 weight distribution and a low centre of gravity which enhances the way it drives and improves overall responsiveness.
Infotainment and sound
The BMW i4 comes with a host of BMW ConnectedDrive technologies that include the new generation iDrive Display, the new BMW Operating System as well as advanced functionality through the BMW Virtual Assistant. Occupants can just talk to the car and give it a command in order to operate numerous functions. The car also boasts of a 17-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
Priced at INR 69.90 lakh, the BMW i4 is a very tempting offer for those who want an electric car that offers performance, class, and amazing badge value.
