Nexa Grand Vitara: Reviewed

Nexa Grand Vitara: Reviewed

13/09/2022

Maruti Suzuki has introduced the all-new Grand Vitara SUV through their Nexa network. It is a premium SUV that comes with hybrid drivetrains. Let’s take a look at its different aspects, to know if it holds up to the competitors.

Design

Grand Vitara is a striking looking vehicle that has a bold imposing road presence. The squared-off design language looks modern and upmarket, and it is further accentuated by the bold use of chrome up front on the grille. It gets signature 3-element LED DRLs, slim LED tail lamps and a nice chunky bumper. Grand Vitara rides on 17-inch alloys and carries a strong shoulder line.

Interior

The cabin of the Grand Vitara has been done up with fine materials. There is a generous use of soft touch materials to bring out that finesse and the quilted upholstery looks rather stunning. Space on board is fantastic and five adults can be seated in absolute comfort. The treatment to the centre console in leatherette is one of the key highlights to the cabin. Grand Vitara also gets a large panoramic sunroof which adds to its opulence.

Features

As far as features on board are concerned, the Grand Vitara is extremely well appointed. To start with, you get a heads-up display on the strong hybrid version, steering mounted controls are standard, as is the large SmartPlay Pro touchscreen infotainment system. The system also offers a 360-degree view camera, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. While the mild hybrid version gets a regular instrument cluster, the strong hybrid version gets a digital driver’s display as well as ventilated front seats for additional comfort.

Performance

Maruti is offering the Grand Vitara with a choice of two engine options. The lower range will get the 1.5-litre VVT petrol paired with the smart hybrid system. This version delivers 103 PS of power and is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. Interestingly, the AllGrip Select all-wheel-drive version is only available as a manual with the smart hybrid system. The range-topping strong hybrid gets a 1.5 litre petrol motor paired with an electric motor which offers a combined output of 116 PS of power. This version is only available with an e-CVT and is touted to be extremely efficient.

All Wheel Drive

Suzuki AllGrip makes its debut with the Grand Vitara. This sophisticated all-wheel-drive system offers a choice of modes that include Auto, Snow and Mud to choose from depending on the driving condition. There is the ability to lock the system for additional off-roading capabilities and it transforms the Grand Vitara into a machine that can easily make its way through less than optimum driving conditions.

Verdict

There is a lot to like about the new Grand Vitara. It is a premium vehicle that is extremely feature rich and looks strikingly good. With the hybrid powertrain options, it is an extremely frugal vehicle to drive without having to sacrifice on performance.
