Tata Tiago EV Review

Tata Tiago EV Review

Based on the ICE version of Tiago, Tiago.EV boasts of the same design lines and stance, however it does benefit from some EV specific styling elements like the black enclosed panel across the front, tri-arrow pattern on the bumper and closed off grille and the humanity line finished in steel blue that runs right across the front to mark it as part of Tata’s EV range. Tiago.EV also gets two-tone plastic wheel caps, a black roof, black mirror casings and the tell-tale EV badging on the front and rear. Despite being a 2016 design, it still looks fresh and right for the market.

Cabin of Tiago.EV retains the same layout as what we have seen on the regular ICE Tiago models, however to set it apart just a bit, Tata Motors has given it a neat two-tone look with a black and off-white theme. The seats are finished in white leatherette as well. Other EV-specific changes include new buttons for the braking regeneration levels, an electric charging lid release and the rotary gear selector.

Tiago.EV gets a digital instrument cluster that has been upgraded to feature EV specific information such as the regen levels. Car also benefits from a Harman touchscreen infotainment system coupled with eight speakers, climate control and a flat-bottomed steering wheel.

Battery and performance

Tiago.EV is offered in two variants, namely the medium range version and the long range version. The medium range version gets a 19.2kWh LFP battery pack and a permanent magnet synchronous motor that delivers 45kW of power and 110 Nm of torque. It has a range of 257km per charge. The long range version gets a 24kWh LFP battery pack and delivers 55kW of power and 114 Nm of torque. It boasts of a 315km range per charge.

Tiago.EV is quite responsive and to further add to the overall driving appeal, it gets two driving modes, namely regular and sport. The regular mode is the default mode that maximizes range while delivering ample power, however sport mode makes it quite a zippy car for urban drives. Add to that, Tiago.EV benefits from four regen modes – off, level 01, level 02 and level 03. These can be controlled at the touch of a button and allow the driver to set up the regen level to charge the battery while coasting.

Tiago.EV is targeted at first-time EV buyers and on that note it is an impressive machine. Despite being built to a cost, it feels upmarket and well appointed. Tata Motors has ensured that it is extremely feature rich and well suited for usage in urban environments. Moreover, it drives in a mature manner, and with a light steering, good visibility and a small footprint, it is very user-friendly.
