Design
Toyota designers have done a splendid job in delivering an MPV that has an imposing SUV-like road presence. Hycross benefits from a striking front end that gets an oversized hexagonal grille, heavy chrome accents, large LED DRLs and a muscular bonnet that resembles that of the Fortuner. The profile of the Hycross will have you convinced that this is an SUV and not a three-row MPV. The pronounced wheel arches, sculpted body lines and large 18-inch tyres add their bit to bringing out its butch stance. Rear has a nice sloping line and isn’t squared-off like what you find on the Crysta. Treatment to the taillights is also stunning as they offer a nice premium appeal.
Interior
Innova Hycross boasts of a massive cabin that has been kitted out with premium materials in order to deliver a rather opulent experience while on board. Fit and finish is commendable, and the materials are nice to touch. It is a proper three-row MPV and there is no dearth of space on board. Front captain seats are very comfortable, and third row can accommodate adults if required, however it is the second row that wins the contest of the best seats in the house as you can opt for the part-electric ottomans with extensions that you can rest your legs on if you want to stretch out. As far as boot space is concerned, Hycross offers ample room to get a few bags in, even if all three rows are occupied. Third row folds flat if you require additional luggage space on a long haul.
Key features
Toyota Innova Hycross is loaded with upmarket features that include auto-LED headlamps and tail-lamps, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, electrically operable driver’s seat with memory, multi-zone automatic climate control, 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, JBL sound system, acoustic and tinted windscreen, electric tailgate, paddle shifters, tyre pressure monitor, and a 360-degree parking camera.
Safety
Hycross comes with autonomous driver assistance systems (ADAS) like blindspot monitor, adaptive cruise control, rear cross traffic alert, high beam assist and lane keeping assist. These systems work seamlessly to aid the driver while out on the road and have been tested for Indian driving conditions as well.
Performance
Toyota Innova Hycross is offered with a choice of two powertrains, namely a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 2.0-litre strong hybrid. The 2.0-litre engine displaces 1987cc and features a direct injection system, however in the strong hybrid also runs an electric motor to aid overall performance and efficiency. The naturally aspirated version delivers 172 PS of power, while the hybrid delivers 184 PS of power.
Verdict
Overall, Toyota Innova Hycross takes the 7-seater MPV game to a new level in terms of refinement, comfort and performance. With the hybrid powertrain, it is extremely efficient and coupled with Toyota’s legendary reliability, Hycross is a choice that few can resist. Expected to be priced in the INR 30-35 lakh range, Hycross will sit between Innova Crysta and Fortuner.
